Glitch in the System – the role of mistakes and coincidence in the artistic process
What happens if systemic glitches and random coincidences appear in art? How do such glitches make an impact on the artistic process and outcome? How can glitches and coincidences be embraced as a tool to enhance the creative process and to generate new ideas? How can one use glitches as a way of expressing creativity? Glitches are often regarded as failures in art. Contrary to this belief, glitches can have a much deeper meaning: they can be a source of inspiration, and a cornerstone of the creative process.
Krisztina Bóka used various plant-based emulsions in her work “Summer Looked In Through the Window.” The montage of small-scale canvases is the result of experimenting with natural materials, in which chance and error are integral parts of the creative process. Through her reinterpretation of the anthotype technique, Bóka’s work demonstrates how experimental photography remains relevant and dynamic within contemporary art discourse.
