HOMEWARD

In her solo exhibition, Krisztina Bóka explores the concept of finding home in temporary living conditions. The main questions of her works are what home means, and if it is not ideal, in what alternative form it can be created. Through artworks made from fragile or translucent materials that express the ephemeral nature of transitional living spaces, the exhibition reveals the artist's previous perceptions of home.

Bóka's studies and professional interests have led her to move between different residences since she was in high school. Although each move was a result of her own decision, the consequences of this transition affect her similarly to those who are forced to leave their homes for social reasons. What can we do if the concept of 'home', identified with calm, stability, and personalisation, cannot be realised because we know that our stay is only temporary? How do these transitional years affect the identity of a young adult?

Ownership is one way of being attached to objects and spaces; Bóka chooses this as a coping mechanism. Through imprints, the artist takes possession of her temporary residences: her photographs capture the windows of her former homes, while the plaster installation resembling a street attempts to establish a connection to unfamiliar spaces and engages in memory preservation.
